I liked this rainbow heart because of the layers of color. It’s an accurate representation of the emotional reality of the human heart. We do have layers and levels that need navigating.
Think on it. You feel one thing for a partner; another for a parent; another for a pet. All loves. All different.
I was talking with a friend yesterday morning and we both lamented the fact that the human heart often gets left out of the human equation. The world says, “Spirit, Soul, Body” comprise a person. Or, Body Mind Spirit do.
It’s one of the reasons I’m so dead set against making a human a trinity. It just doesn’t work. Look at those words again:
Spirit, Soul, Body
Body, Mind, Spirit
Where, I ask you, is the heart in these?
Oh, okay, maybe tucked — like an after-thought — into Soul. Maybe. But the truth is, generally speaking, when we divide up the human pie into its component parts, we leave the heart forlornly behind, on a dusty shelf, all by itself.
Why?
Because hearts have a squillion layers, and they’re just not orderly or measurable or even, necessarily, cooperative. And yet … and yet … the human heart is the self-generating fountain that knows we are all connected, that each one of us matters, that we’re here to make a difference.
Perhaps we’ve reached this polarized impasse in the world because we keep forgetting the heart of the matter?
Just for today, Beloved, go looking for yours, take it off the shelf, dust it off, discover its myriad layers, and invite your heart to lead you.
You’ll be surprised where you end up.
