Chakras & Chinese Meridian Hours: Earth

I fell over a file in my computer the other day that I didn’t remember saving. Does that ever happen to you?

The file held a simple list of polarities related to the Five Elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine, or TCM.

So let’s take a look at the elemental connections to be found in the meridian clock. Next comes Earth.

In the clock format, there are two segments for each element, except Fire, which has four.

The Earth element covers 7–11 am which pertains to Stomach and Spleen/Pancreas. Stomach is Yang Earth; Spleen/Pancreas is Yin Earth.

It makes sense to me that these go together elementally. They work together!

The emotional polarity of Earth is Happiness and Worry.

In these meridians, worry can show up in both as a constant, low-level fretting, mostly from imagination/thoughts run wild. Humans are better than any other species at scaring ourselves I’d venture.

So what fixes the Worry? Well, of course Happiness. It’s worth a look at the etymology of the word. My spiritual brand of etymology reveals that happiness comes from hap — that which may happen. This is the element that is used most to dream the lives we want, and there’s a good reason metaphysical teachers remind us to specify and surrender. Sure, dream the dreams of your best life. Of course. But, as Jon Bon Jovi has said, “Do it in pencil.” Something better could be on the horizon.

And of course, there are chakra fixes related to the chakras. Both Stomach and Spleen/Pancreas are part of the digestive process that helps us make fuel of whatever we eat. These two are related to the Third Yellow Solar Chakra. Wear yellow, drink yellow-charged water, make of habit of noticing your tiniest of daily happinesses. Get a few minutes of Vitamin D in the outdoor light — if it’s sunshine, so much the better.

Think of it this way: most often worry puts our minds so far into the future that we completely ignore what’s happening now. But, now is where we live. Now is where we find happiness. Now, is when our brilliant bodies are converting food to fuel.

Beloved, worry is a thief, an insidious one. Sure, all sorts of dreadful things may befall us, but until they do, why borrow trouble? Have you handled whatever has arisen in your life to date? Good. You’ll handle the next thing, too. So often we treat worry as if it’s a fruitful activity, as if worry can act as a prophylactic. It can’t. There’s always going to be something new coming your way. If you’ll choose to meet it with happiness, usually you’ll be just fine.
